I looked at the screenshots on the download site. Not too shabby. Shows what good texturing can do.

I always thought the stock texturing was kinda bland. Some of these look really good tho.

I'm going to have advise people to download this at your own risk. This MOD WAS working for me. Since the recent Valve update, seems the exe isnt working.

That's the problem with these MODS. They are awesome but every frickin' time Valve updates it messes 'em up. That's why Garry (GMOD) chose to work with Valve. He was sick and tired of having to recode things due to Valve's updates not being compatible with GMOD..
Arrrrghh this pisses me off. I'm going to leave this thread up anyway. Maybe someone out there can figure out how to get this to run again. Maybe it's my files i don't know.

:!:  Episode 2 version :!:

Well here it is. Fake is no longer making any of the mods. So grab these while you can before Valve hires him and starts to charge for them. Maybe he's looking for other work? ...ahem...he's available for work..ahem...
There's a couple of updates/patches. And the groundbreaking Alyx Constuction Kit a.k.a. Character Pimper.
The Fakefactory mods have always been awesome. Just hope Fake moves on to bigger and better things with the Half Life universe.

 There's a lot of people who never heard of it. Not many sites post his work. He's REAL leery on who (websites) get's the file. Check the link for other versions for Half Life 2, Episode 1 and GMOD. These skins blow Valve's out of the water and into a mountain. The difference is incredible.

 From what i read though the latest CMOD for Ep. 2 runs better on a dual core/64bit computer. I guess it DOES work for the rest of us. Some graphics settings might have to be configured. I'm gonna give it a shot and post some pics. Took me all night and into the day to download the file and updates. The main file is 2GB in size. It'll show up wierd when you download it. I use Winrar and the numbers weren't reading right but it downloaded ok.

HERE'S SOME OF THE README FOR THE EPISODE 2 MOD:
( looks like it's for high powered rigs. I'm still gonna give it a try.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cinematic Mod V5 (EP2 Part)
V 0.5 beta
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.) IMPORTANT TECHNICAL INFO:
-----------------------------

1.1) Memory requirements

A minimum of 3 GB RAM is needed for playing on maxed texture/shader settings.
A minimum of 2 GB RAM is needed for playing on medium texture/shader settings.

1.2) - 32 BIT / 64 BIT

After extensive email discussions with VALVE and the hlcoders i came to the
following conclusion: The Cinematic Mod will run on 32 Bit but it's not
longer supported on 32 Bit systems, because of the limited userspace with 32
Bit Windows. Don't blame Valve or me for this problem. It is a fundamental
problem on all 32 bit platforms, that cannot and will not fixed with a
engine update.

In other words:

You can try the mod on 32 Bit, but most likely you need to set texture
and shader details to medium or low for crashfree play (it will still looks
good at medium settings). 64 Bit users are able to play with all settings
maxed out, as the engine can use all available RAM for allocating memory blocks.

1.3) Hardware requirements / graphics adapter

A DX9 capable graphicscard with at least 256 MB VRAM is needed. THIS MOD WILL
SHOW SOME STRANGE GRAPHICALLY GLITCHES ON HARDWARE BELOW DX9

1.4) Software requirements

You need a full installed STEAM with the following full installed and unlocked games:

+ Half-Life 2
+ Half-Life 2 Episode One
+ Half-Life 2 Episode Two

or the Orange Box package

This mod is for WINDOWS only - no XBox360 supported!
Sorry guys, but i don't develop for this console crap.

I'm running a 768RAM 2.6GHZ computer. I have a Radeon X1600pro 512MB card. This MOD still runs pretty good. What i did was use the Catalyst Control Center for Radeon to "have application decide" on most of the settings. Then i used medium to high settings. Resolution was at 16ooX12oo i got a "OS page pool memory low" sometimes. Which i also got in TF2. I thinks it's a Valve problem. Anyway. Enjoy!

Here's a quick walkthrough on how to install the MOD.

Go to the link i posted and download the large client file. (2GB)
You will also need the 2 patches so download those. What i did was leave the computer on at night it took awhile to download everything.

Like the read-me said, MAKE SURE STEAM IS NOT RUNNING PRIOR TO INSTALL

Open the large (2GB) file click the .exe to run. It will automatically install the MOD client into Sourcemods folder. It will take a few minutes to install.
When that is done you want to add the beta 6 patch. I had to open the files and "add/update the files" Anyone with a knowledge of updating file should know how to do this. Then add the beta5 to 8 patch to that. Same procedure. click "yes" to overwrite/update all files.

When that is all done, go into your program files/steam/steamapps/sourcemods folder. Click on the Character Pimper file. Run the Character Pimper Autoplay. Here you will be able to choose what kind of Alyx skins to use for Half Life 2,Episode 1 AND Episode 2. Once you click the pictures, it'll bring it to the large profile screen at bottom right. Click that and it will load the skin into the game. All done. Have fun!

Fakefactory's Cinematic Mod V8.0 beta PREVIEW
*thanks FAKEFACTORY

Image

CHANGES SINCE CM 4/5/6:
-------------------------------------------------

- Reworked sounds and music
- Almost all textures reworked or updated
- Added Hires-Detail-Overlays
- Added HDR to HL2 (See below)
- Fixed two potential crash-bugs
- One pack for all episodes

HDR for HL2
-------------------------------------------------

"Not all HL2 maps are true HDR, because not all sources are available. For all other maps i used a technique, that i call "Entity injection". Technically i've used clientcommand entities and tonemapcontrollers to achieve a hdr-like type of blooming on those maps. This type of bloom is much more realistic than the old bloom mini-mod, because the effect is controllable inside the map for different settings at certain locations. You can call it HDR V0.5 or Bloom V2. Its some kind of super-ehanced bloom that gives a near-HDR look on the old HL2 maps. Some of the map-settings aren't final (i'm still at the fine-tuning phase)"

Description:

"Cinematic Mod's anticipated port to the Orangebox Engine is here! Bear in mind this Beta 1 of V8.0 are there will be some known and unknown issues as depicted below. If you would rather wait for the complete version, that will available as soon as everything is polished out."

"THIS VERSION BRINGS THE ORANGEBOX ENGINE TO OLD HL2 AND EP1. IT INSTALLS INDEPENDENT FROM CM7 OR OLDER VERSIONS. TO PLAY THIS MOD, YOU MUST OWN HALF-LIFE 2 / EPISODE ONE / EPISODE TWO FULLY INSTALLED AND UNLOCKED (= started at least one time)! YOU CANNOT PLAY THIS MOD WITHOUT EPISODE TWO CONTENT!"

USED SOFTWARE FOR THIS MOD:

Adobe Photoshop CS2
3DS MAX 8
E-Frontier Poser 7
Microsoft C++ Visual Studio 2005
Powerbasic 8
VALVE Source SDK
Sony Soundforge 7
Sony Vegas 7
Crazy Bump 5
Cannonfodders SDK tools
entspy
vmex
Autoplay Mediastudio Pro
Setup Factory

As of late last night the downloads were finished for this huge version. Upon testing this version (CM8) i noticed many purple/black squares in game. Here we go again.
Not sure what the problem was if it's clientside or defective archive. I'm pretty sure it's Valve's issue. There's been a few Valve updates since the release of this.

F.Y.I Winrar detected corrupt archives in parts 3,4,5, and 6. I tried repairing all and each of the corrupt archives to no avail. Guess i'll wait until the final. I'll treat this as a rush by the author to get CM8 beta out. Fakefactory obviously forgot something because CM7 works fine.

Here's a few pics i took ingame from Half Life 2 using CM7. I'm using that until CM8 is completed. CM7 works fine for HL2,EP1 and EP2. The difference is incredible the story and journey seem more realistic and ominous.
My resolution was at only 1152X864 with graphics options to high/very high with Color Correction disabled.

pick up that can heheheh

CM7 Install:
First and foremost, read the readme! But here's some basics...

Uninstall/remove any older versions of Fakefactory Cinematic mod. Download/save all six parts of CM7 to a folder. When all are finished dl'ing, run the "setup.exe" in part1 rar. Make sure Steam isn't running when you install. It'll take awhile to install (took me an hour).
When finished installing, run Steam. Go to Start-All Programs. Run the Alyx Character Pimper press left click to select which Alyx model you want for specified episode. Right click on the larger picture once you have selected the model. Press "ok" to install the selected model.

CM7; tested works! (6 parts)
*If you don't think you have enough memory or if you get a lack of memory error during install, still try dl'ing/installing it it'll prob still work.

Valve's Jigglebones feature that comes with CM8 final.

:!: This is a 5 part download approx 6GB. Read Installation and download:
http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/Fak ... 0x#1589542

I recommend uninstalling any previous version(s) of Cinematic Mod BEFORE installing this. IF you have Fakefactory models/folders in Garrysmod, don't mess with those they are fine where they are.

SETUP.EXE AND VIRUS-WARNING
--------------------------------------------------

Setup uses a tool called SetACL for setting write permissions to the mods
screenshots / cfg / SAVE directories. Some antivirus software could warn about
possible malware. This is a false positive.

Sorry for the late response. The mod works just fine on 32 bit long as you have enough RAM to install it.

Here's a few HL2: Ep.2 in-game pics i took of Alyx using Fakefactory CM8. You can use this model or many other versions of Alyx for Half Life 2 and Ep.1&2.
